Documentary versus Lifestyle

Do you want to remember the wonderful chaos of your everyday with a new little one including all the significant details that mark this special time like that endless pile of laundry or dishes you feel like you’ll never get to? If so, a documentary session is right for you. We can record your family adjusting to newborn life - feeding, changing diapers, and loving baby in your home in its authentic, beautiful way.

If you prefer to capture what your best day would look like, keeping the details around your home minimal, focusing on you and your precious love for your baby along with all the sweet baby items you hand picked as you excitedly waited for their arrival then a Lifestyle session is what you'll want to go with. This style focuses more on baby, his or her favorite spots in your home and your favorite baby items in the most aesthetically pleasing way.

Both styles aim to capture baby in natural poses and settings. For more posed photos with props, blankets and backdrops, please ask about my Studio packages.

Lifestyle

Lifestyle

Age

Studio Style Photos: Less than 2 weeks of age, ideally when baby is between 5-10 days old. During this time, baby is more comfortable being curled up and posed as well as taking photos without clothing. Baby is also more sleepy.

Documentary and Lifestyle: After 2 weeks of age. The older baby gets, the stronger baby’s body gets and the more awake he or she stays. These sessions focus more on baby in natural poses and give a better chance of capturing baby with his or eyes open.

Babies grow so quickly. From those sleepy newborn days to when they are smiling, sitting up and then taking their first steps - you’ll want to remember every stage so no age is too young or too old to be captured.

What to Wear

What to Wear

Attire

Recommended for baby: well fitted clothing, onesies, swaddle blankets, hats and/or head pieces

Choose a color scheme that matches your home

Keep in mind that you may be sitting and/or laying down for some photos so wear something comfortable and flattering in any angle

Bare feet or socks?

Shoes are not recommended indoors

Lighting

Lighting

Lighting

Due to unflattering color casts from indoor lights, natural/window light is preferred.
Areas with large bright windows or glass doors are the best for shooting in.

Dark areas will cause dark and noisy/grainy photos.

If possible, place the crib or rocking chair by a big window

Don’t forget to Include any of baby's favorite stuffies or blankets

Other sweet details you may want to have - letter board, crib mobile, headbands/bows, hats

Going barefoot? Keep those toesies clean ;)

Remove any items you don’t want captured from the photo areas (wires, remotes, cups, etc.)

This is an exciting and precious time. I want to make sure you, baby and the rest of your family are completely comfortable throughout your session. Please keep communication open at all times - if you need to feed, if baby is cold, if you don’t like certain poses or if you just need a break. We will go at you and baby's pace. I want to make sure you get photos of your growing baby and family that you will all cherish forever.
